Tasmania's Most Spectacular Day Sea Kayaking Tour

Get up-close and personal with the southern hemisphere’s highest sea cliffs and resident Australian fur seals.

This exhilarating adventure will have you kayaking along the coast of the Tasman National Park towards Cape Hauy, a star feature of Tasmania’s newest world-class hike – the Three Capes Track.

At sea level you’ll truly appreciate the scale of Australia’s highest sea cliffs, gazing up at 200-metre-high fluted rock formations, peering into natural sea caves, photographing the towering Candlestick, and searching for climbers on the Totem Pole – a sheer column famed amongst thrill-seeking rock climbers.

Enjoy our gourmet Tasmanian lunch at a deserted cove, paddle over a semi-submerged shipwreck and marvel at the abundant marine wildlife that lives along this coast, including resident fur seals, soaring sea eagles, diving gannets, cliff-nesting cormorants, peregrine falcons, and if we’re lucky – a pod of dolphins or a migrating whale.

A Full Day Adventure

  • Paddle below Cape Hauy’s vertical dolerite columns — a Three Capes Track highlight
  • Get within metres of resident fur seals and keep your eyes open for dolphins, whales, and pelagic seabirds
  • Enjoy a delicious Tasmanian lunch in a remote bay
  • Explore sea caves, a semi-submerged shipwreck, and spectacular rock gardens

Tasman peninsula kayak with Tory was fantastic! Beautiful scenery, all gear was provided and tutorials were excellent. Saw seals and a white bellied sea eagle. Lunch and hot drinks delicious and catered for gluten free without any trouble. Thank you for a great day out Tory!

Leanne Thompson

Did the Cliff Paddle from Fortescue Bay. Allie and Beano such great guides. Knowledgeable, easy going, fun, skilled. Great lunch provided, covered all dietary needs. Saw sea eagles, seals and dolphins. Highly recommend.

Kori Nugent

We did the Tasman Peninsula sea kayak with Tori and Luuk as our guides. We were lucky and had gorgeous weather. We saw all kinds of wildlife (whales, dolphins, sea lions). The dolphins and sea lions came up so close to our kayaks. It was pure magic.

The company’s communication beforehand was excellent. We met them down in Fortescue Bay, and they made them time and place for the meet up clear.

I would highly recommend this kayaking trip to anyone looking to explore the area!

Annie H

Beautiful day at Fortescue Bay exploring this incredible part of the world! Professional, friendly guides who made me feel very safe despite it being my first time paddling on the open water. Thanks to Roaring 40s for an amazing day out and a delicious lunch in an amazing natural setting.

Michael Vincent

Wow as a local I can't believe I haven't taken a kayak trip sooner. We had a fabulous day leaving from the beautiful Fortescue Bay and paddling round to the gulch near the Candlestick. The seals and albatross were great to see. Our guides Tom and Sara were knowledgeable and great fun. Then across the bay for a really nice lunch. Roaring 40's have put together a great day out good gear great food and lots of local knowledge. Highly recommend.

Jenny Bauer

We finally got to actually go on this trip after the weather didn't co-operate a couple of years in a row. This time we were able to be flexible with timing so we could go when the weather was good. Roaring 40s was great at giving us a refund if the trip was cancelled by bad weather or booking us in on another day.

We had an amazing day. Damo was, fun, knowledgeable and great at communicating to the group to help the day go smoothly. And we were given all the gear and info we needed for the day.

We had fun riding the swell, getting exercise pushing into a head wind before lunch, spotting sun bathing seals and a majestic sea eagle.

We're keen for another trip!

I've been involved in a lot of kayaking around the world and this is an absolute five-star experience! There's a lot to see. Seals in the sun are super cute. The guides luke and kaia (I hope they misspelled his name) were very friendly and took care of the safety of the team! Have the opportunity to hope to participate in their activities again.

Layla B

Trip was rescheduled due to weather constraints, but quickly rebooked for the day after. Spectacular day!! We were geared up to be kept warm and dry the whole time. The guide was super enthusiastic, taught us all about the area and showed us through all the most impressive parts of the peninsula. He also went to great efforts to capture plenty of photos of us. You could really tell Roaring 40’s wanted us to have the best experience and walk away with great memories. The paddling itself was not too strenuous, but I was certainly sore the next day - an amazing adventure and would certainly go again!

Awesome day out in Fortescue Bay. Guide Tory has the perfect combination of enthusiasm, knowledge and the ability to make the trip special even though she's probably done it thousands of times. Super well organised, flexible and everything is done with the genuine best interests of everyone in mind. Highly recommend this trip to anyone who has ever gazed down from the top of a sea cliff and wanted to know what the seals see!

The day tour was amazing. The views were breathtaking and watching animals in their natural habitat is the best you can imagine. Our guides, Allie and Rob, were super. They supported first time paddlers, had a deep knowledge about geology, about environmental protection and the history of the peninsula. The trip was very well organized, on time, lunch was delicious, just a highlight when in Tasmania.

Ubo

Struck gold on our Tasmanian Peninsula Day Trip. Perfect weather and terrific guides - Luke and Kai - meant we were able to paddle around the famous rock formations that are usually inaccessible to inexperienced kayakers. A very enjoyable and memorable day.

J EThe highlight of my year

The kayaking tour around Fortescue bay was by far the highlight of my entire Tassie trip! Damo was our incredible and knowledgeable guide for the day. We saw stunning coast lines, fur seals, eagles, a ship wreck, and had lunch in a secluded cosy spot around the bay. I not only learned a lot about the bay area but also about sea currents and the mechanics of kayaking.

Everyone was so lovely! If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Highly recommend Roaring40s kayaking tours if you are heading to Tassie. It’s the best way to soak in the glorious coastlines and hopefully spot some incredible wildlife too. Thanks Damo and the team for having me 🥰

Kate G

Did a kayaking session at Fortescue bay on 29 April, 2024. It was an absolutely amazing paddle experience that I’ll never forget. It was my first time on a sea kayak and our guide was so helpful and friendly. The lunch that we were served was absolutely delicious and so much thought was put in to make the experience memorable.
The location was fantastic with beautiful weather conditions that day. Thanks for an amazing day!!
